Sure, these questions may not be asked all the time, but the answers might help you understand what’s going on around here.

A: You betcha.

Q: I’m a professional illustrator, and I’d like to do a workshop for Tiny Army. What next?
A: Drop me an email, and let me know what you’d like to do. I’m sure we can arrange something.

Q: What is the purpose of Tiny Army?
A: To provide AZ illustrators with support, inspiration, and ideas to become a more successful illustrator, AND to promote AZ illustration in general.

Q: I live in Spokane… May I please join?
A: Well, no. Tiny Army is currently only limited to Arizona artists. If you’d like to open a chapter of your own, let me know.

Q: What will this cost me?
A: Nothing but your time, and maybe some of your energy. This isn’t about monetary profits.

Q: What is the Tiny Army secret agenda?
A: Um… Erm… to offer us all a better chance to succeed? To get the word out that PHX has talent? To make friends with like-minded people.

Q: Why should I join?
A: That depends on you. For me, I want:

  1. More exposure for my work - in Phoenix, in Arizona, and beyond
  2. To meet and learn from other driven, creative people
  3. To have more community support
  4. To make new friends with similar interests
  5. To be in a community that is regarded as madly talented
  6. To learn about more local art opportunities

Q: How can I help out?
A: Any numbers of ways:

  1. Take photos at our events, and post them on our Flickr group
  2. Download a flyer, and post it where local artists will see it
  3. Offer to demonstrate something that you’re an expert in
  4. Help us manage the website
  5. Come with some ideas about what you want from the group
  6. Link to TinyArmy.com and/or to other Tiny Army members. (Google likes this, and so do I.)

Q: What are the meetings going to be like?
A: They should last a couple of hours, and will probably have an agenda. Here’s the skeleton that I envision:

  1. Welcome message - a brief overview of the group for newcomers, and welcome to attendees.
  2. Announcements - your chance to speak up and announce something. Also, a good way to let people know about art shows, events, and even find people to collaborate with.
  3. Topics - here’s where we’ll have speakers, demos, and other topics.
  4. Close - Thanks for coming, and reminder of the next event.

Q: What will I get out of Tiny Army?
A: I sincerely believe that you get out, what you put in. I hope to improve my own illustration career, while helping others do the same.

Q: Is this exactly the same as a drink-n-draw?
A: Probably not. Sure, we’ll draw and do some laughing. But we’re also going to be talking a lot about how to succeed in the business world. Same friendly spirit, but different objectives.

Q: Can I wear an army helmet at meetings?
A: Sure, as long as you leave the rifle at home.
